How many times has it happened to you that after two dips in the pool your swimsuit or bikini loses color, it gets pills or it stretches? It’s a drag, we know, and that’s why we’re going to give you some guidelines so that the next swimsuit you buy in the sales will last you not one, nor us, but up to three and four summers. Then, if you want to change because that style is no longer worn or because you get tired of it, that’s up to you, but not for us. Swimwear needs even more care than other types of garments, among other things, due to the fabric with which they are made, the use we give them and the circumstances to which they are subjected (amount of chlorine from swimming pools and amount of salt in seawater). For this reason, before starting with our list of tips, we ask you, where do you wash your swimsuit? What do you do to dry your bikini? Or once the beach and pool season is over, where and how do you store them? In your answers is the key for your bikini to last more than one summer.
Tips to make your bikini last more than one summer
- Hand wash. To remove chlorine from the pool or salt from the sea, as soon as you get home, put your swimsuit or bikini under the water tap to remove any remains it might have. Afterwards, wash it with cold or lukewarm water with a little liquid soap.
- No more draining. Many times, without knowing it, we twist the swimsuit until not a drop of water comes out, but… mistake! What you have to do is let it air dry, if what you want, of course, is to prevent it from losing its shape or stretching too much.
- Delicate swimwear. As we like to, many times we are tempted to buy a bikini with sequins or pearls. Be very careful when washing this type of garment. Apply the previous advice with the utmost care so that it keeps its essence from the beginning intact.
- Goodbye tweezers. We have already told you that the best thing for your swimsuit to be preserved is for it to air dry, and here we also exclude dryers, which are so useful at other times. Also, when you put them on the clothesline, avoid using clothespins and place it in an area where the sun does not hit it so that it does not eat the color.
- Sun cream. Sunscreens, those allies to take care of our skin in summer, are the great enemies of bikinis and swimsuits. Solution? Put on the cream before going down to the beach or pool and avoid contact whenever possible.
- Not without your towel. The edges of the pool are the ideal place to cool off without having to get our bodies wet, but be careful not to lean on it without putting a towel there. You should do it if you want to prevent the bikini from rubbing against the rough surface of the floor and deteriorating.
- Summer is over, what now? Now is the time to store that bikini or swimsuit in a cloth bag without weighing it down and following the first instructions.
